2008 State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament
Team Competition Contest and Rules

Banner Contest :
Show you team spirit and bring your team banner to the Florida Babe Ruth Softball Opening Ceremonies at the Newberry Sports Complex on July 4th. The team from each age group that brings the best and most spirited banner will win a trophy for the entire team. It is a great way for your team to start off with a win before the weekend even begins!

  1. Team Competition: (8 & Under and 10 & Under)
    Nine (9) or Ten (10) players will compete for each team (pitcher is optional). Each base or spot must be touched by the fielder (the fielder my tag the base or spot with their glove or any part of their body). Teams will compete in order according to their district number.
     
    1. The Pitcher will throw the ball to the Catcher. The time will begin when the Catcher tags home plate. If the catcher misses home plate time will begin when the ball is released and a 5 second penalty will be added to the ending time.
       
    2. The Catcher will throw the ball to Third Baseman tagging third base.
       
    3. The Third Baseman will throw the ball to the Second Baseman tagging second base.
       
    4. The Second Baseman will throw the ball to the First Baseman tagging first base.
       
    5. The First Baseman will throw the ball to the Catcher tagging home plate.
       
    6. The Catcher throws the ball to the Shortstop tagging second base.
       
    7. The Shortstop throws the ball to the Right Fielder tagging the right field spot.
       
    8. The Right Fielder throws the ball to the Second Baseman tagging second base.
       
    9. The Second Baseman throws the ball to the Right Center fielder tagging the right center spot.
       
    10. The Right Center Fielder throws the ball to the Short Stop tagging second base.
       
    11. The Shortstop throws the ball to the Left Center Fielder tagging the left center spot.
       
    12. The Left Center Fielder throws the ball to the Third Baseman tagging third base.
       
    13. The Third Baseman throws the ball to the Left Fielder tagging the left field spot.
       
    14. The Left Fielder throws the ball to the Catcher tagging home plate which will stop the clock.
       
    15. A five second penalty will be added for each base or spot missed and / or for every overthrow.
       
  2. Team Competition:
    Eight (8) or Nine (9) players will compete for each team (pitcher is optional). Each base or spot must be touched by the fielder (the fielder my tag the base or spot with their glove or any part of their body). Teams will compete in order according to their district number.

    2. The Catcher will throw the ball to Third Baseman tagging third base.
       
    3. The Third Baseman will throw the ball to the Second Baseman tagging second base.
       
    4. The Second Baseman will throw the ball to the First Baseman tagging first base.
       
    5. The First Baseman will throw the ball to the Catcher tagging home plate.
       
    6. The Catcher throws the ball to the Shortstop tagging second base.
       
    7. The Shortstop throws the ball to the Right Fielder tagging the right field spot.
       
    8. The Right Fielder throws the ball to the Second Baseman tagging second base.
       
    9. The Second Baseman throws the ball to the Center Fielder tagging the center field spot.
       
    10. The Center Fielder throws the ball to the Third Baseman tagging third base.
       
    11. The Third Baseman throws the ball to the Left Fielder tagging the left field spot.
       
    12. The Left Fielder throws the ball to the Catcher tagging home plate which will stop the clock.
       
    13. A five second penalty will be added for each base or spot missed and / or for every overthrow.
       
  3. Hit For Points:
     
    1. Each team may enter one batter. The batters will compete in order according to their district number. Each batter will get five swings off of a single wheel pitching machine. The top three hitters from each age group will advance to the finals. Each batter in the finals will receive ten swings. If there is a tie each batter will receive two pitches.
       
    2. The out field will be divided into three Point Zones. Zone 1 will be 90' to 133' down each line and 115' to 150' in center. Zone 2 will be 133' to 176' down each line and 150' to 185' in center. Zone 3 will be 176' to 220' down each line and 185' to 220' in center.
       
    3. Points: Zone 1 = 25 points, Zone 2 = 50 points, Zone 3 = 75 points, Softball hitting the fence = 100 points and Home Run = 200 points. If the ball hits the line the batter will be awarded the zone scoring the highest points.
       
  4. Base Running:
    Each team may enter one base runner. The base runners will be timed from home to home. The time will start when the runner leaves home plate and stop when home plate is tagged. There will be a 5 second penalty for every base missed. The top three runners from each age group will advance to the finals.
     
  5. Out Field Throw:
    Each team may enter one outfielder. Each outfielder will receive 5 throws. The 8 & Under and 10 & Under age divisions will throw from 120'. All other age divisions will throw from 130'. Each throw will score based on accuracy of the throw to home plate. The top three scores will advance to the finals in each age group.
     
    No player may enter more than one event. Coaches must submit entries no later than the coaches meeting.
